Responsible Use of Antibiotics

As a global company, Subway® strives to be a good global citizen. We take the issue of antimicrobial resistance seriously and believe that responsible stewardship of antibiotics in raising of farm animals is essential. Our policy is that antibiotics can be used to treat and control disease, but not for growth promotion or routine disease prevention of farm animals. Subway® has developed a Global Responsible Use of Antibiotics policy – in line with the World Health Organization (WHO) – for the responsible use of antibiotics important to human medicine within our supply chain and to address antibiotic overuse in animal production.

As of Q1 2020, our U.S. turkey supply chain transitioned to a limited antibiotic use program which aligns our sourcing practices to World Health Organization (WHO) recommendations to restrict the use of antibiotics that are important to human medicine. In addition, in line with the WHO, our sandwiches, wraps and salads in the U.S. are served only with chicken raised without antibiotics important to human health. The U.S. supply of pork and beef products from animals raised without antibiotics important to human medicine is limited, and we expect our transition to be completed by 2025.

Human Rights & Vendor Code of Conduct

Subway® is committed to respecting the human rights of workers throughout our value chain and require that our suppliers’ employment practices meet our Vendor Code of Conduct (Open in New Window), which prohibits forced labor/slavery as well as establishes our expectations for employment, workplace practices, compensation and benefits, discrimination, health and safety. We are continuously working towards making the safeguards of our supply chain more robust and ensuring compliance on relevant policies including land rights, deforestation and sustainable agriculture.

Modern Slavery Eradication

At Subway®, we recognize that the prevention and eradication of modern slavery and human trafficking is a global challenge. Integrity in our operations, products and supply chain is of the utmost importance. This statement addresses the Modern Slavery Act of the United Kingdom and the California Transparency in Supply Chains Act for the 2024 fiscal year.
